Thursday 12 June 2009: noon: Come hear Dennis Wingo of the Lunar Orbiter Image Recovery Project (LOIRP) discuss their use of Mac OS X technology to save our Space Race heritage. LOIRP is retrieving, digitizing and publishing high-resolution pictures of the Moon captured by five NASA space probes ahead of the Apollo 11 moon landings in 1969. These tapes – rescued from destruction by a determined NASA archivist – represent some of the highest-resolution pictures ever taken of the Moon’s surface and are a priceless piece of history.

I’d really love to see the talk posted to the Web—was it recorded by the conference organizers? I have friends in archiving circles who would love to know the backstory.
I was at this talk today. It was one of the best talks on any subject I have ever attended.
Please post it. I would love to watch/hear it again. I have told several people about the talk, but I can not do it justice.

The presentation was so inspiring and emotional. As a 3 year old I was plonked in front of the TV to watch the Apollo landing. And I have had a love of space ever since.
Seeing this at WWDC was a highlight, and at the end during the Q&A when the gentleman stood up to explain how he had a copy of the blueprints of the tape machine, I cried!!!
